Glove maintenance
At Courtois, our designs deliver on the promise of excellent craftsmanship and high-quality materials. As much a chic and fashionable accessory as they are an accessory that protects your hands every day, gloves are an accessory that deserves protection in return.
Here are some tips to make it easier for you.
When cleaning, it's best to wear your gloves throughout the entire cleaning process to prevent them from becoming deformed. We recommend cleaning the entire pair, not just one, to avoid any discoloration after cleaning.
How to care for your leather gloves
Regardless of its form, leather is generally a living material. Whether lambskin, mink, or even peccary, Maison Courtois gloves evolve with you and develop a patina over time. However, they will need to be cleaned occasionally to avoid stains and to preserve them. Please note: our leather gloves are not designed to be machine washed. If you have any doubts, don't take any risks and take your gloves to a professional, such as a dry cleaner.
To clean a stain, take a cotton ball and soak it in baby cleansing milk. Clean the entire glove, paying particular attention to the stained areas to avoid stains. Remember to change the cotton ball when it becomes dirty. Let your gloves air dry thoroughly.
You can nourish your gloves with special creams to revive the leather, polishing them well with a silk stocking or a soft cloth to make them shine.
How to care for your suede, suede or nubuck gloves
Start by cleaning the suede side, that is to say the “skin” side of the turned-over leather, the outside of the glove:
If the outside of the glove is slightly dirty or stained, a brush or a special suede eraser will be sufficient. You can easily get one from a cobbler or shoe store.
For larger tasks, Sommière earth is the ideal grandmother's remedy: rub lightly, leave it to penetrate overnight and all you have to do is shake out the gloves the next day.
You can also use a damp, well-wrung sponge or washcloth, along with Marseille black soap. Rub the washcloth or sponge over the entire surface to avoid streaks. Let it dry naturally. Once dry, restore the softness of your skin by gently rubbing the entire washcloth with a very soft cloth or microfiber fabric. Caution! This technique can damage the material if you don't wring the washcloth or sponge out enough.
When you are not wearing them, we recommend storing your gloves in their pretty blue Courtois Paris box to protect them from dust and bright lights that could damage dyed leathers.
