Courtois Paris: authentic glove maker in Paris, for men and women

Maison Courtois Paris was born from an unconditional love for beautiful things, designed with a contemporary twist and crafted with respect for traditional craftsmanship. Because glovemaking is an art form, here we share with you some of the secrets of a made-in-France production...

The meticulous stages of production by the master glove maker

Once the leather is chosen, a long rehearsal of meticulous and technical gestures begins, which will give the glove its beauty and excellence. Each of these steps is well defined and composes the glove... They are what make its History!

It all begins with the moistening process: the hides are moistened to make them more supple, then dried. Once dry, the glover stretches them lengthwise to accentuate the glove's suppleness and make the grain finer. This step requires a great deal of strength and discipline, as care must be taken to never tear the hide. The glover can then "place" them, to rule out potential defects in the leather, then determine the exact position of the glove. The craftsman stretches the hide lengthwise again, to widen it and check that the glove will retain its elasticity throughout its life. This essential shoring step gives Maison Courtois Paris gloves impeccable quality. The leather is finally ready; it can be meticulously cut with a suitable, traditional die cutter, to create the glove that will adorn your hands.

Cutting, marking, splitting, sharpening, and trimming are all delicate and precise steps that the glove maker will perform with skill and precision. The finishes must be perfect. To do this, the master glove maker sharpens the glove: he removes by hand, with a pair of scissors, all the small pieces of leather that are protruding.

The creation of the glove maker

This know-how, passed down from generation to generation, continues with the sewing of the glove: all the fanciful details, ribs, stitching, designs, are hand-sewn onto the leather before assembly. The latter can be achieved with different seams, English quilting (on the right side of the glove), internal seams or hand sewing... The style of the glove will be changed!

Finally, the master glover optionally adds a lining, in silk or cashmere, then carefully and carefully checks the glove. He or she uses a small machine that spreads the fingers to pull the seams and check that they are perfect. Then he or she straightens it: the glove is placed on heated hands to regain its shape and be ironed.

All that's left is to wear it!
