A hat's size corresponds to your head circumference in centimetres. To find it, use a dressmaker's tape measure and position it across the middle of your forehead and around the bump at the back of your head (normally 1 cm above the eyebrows and ears).

Hold it comfortably, not too tight, just as you would like your hat to fit: most sizing errors occur when the tape is pulled too tight.

If you do not have a flexible tape measure, you can use a piece of string or ribbon (non-stretch), then measure it flat.
If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger of the two. This will make the hat more comfortable to wear.

You can adjust the size of the hat with a small piece of foam or cork strips (which we can supply) placed behind the fabric or leather sweatband inside the hat.

The most common sizes are generally 55-56-57 for women and 58-59-60 for men.

Our hats are crafted according to the rules of the art, with the finest materials and the utmost care.

To best preserve your hat, here is our advice:

Whether straw or felt, the ideal is to store it in a hatbox or on a shelf – upside down, that is, resting on its crown, making sure the brim does not touch any surface (so as not to alter its shape). Generally speaking, avoid laying your hat flat on a surface, as over time this can misshape the brim.

Our felt hats are waterproofed and can therefore accompany you through the harshest winter weather. However, felt is a material that moves on contact with water and heat. Care is needed, so it is advisable to avoid rain. When your hat gets wet, gently shake off the water and then leave it to dry at room temperature, resting on its crown.

You can brush your hat regularly (in the direction of the nap!) and waterproof it with a rain-repellent spray.
If your hat gets stained, clean it by sprinkling it with Fuller's earth (terre de Sommières), leave it to work, then brush it off.

To find your glove size, use a dressmaker’s tape measure to measure around the palm of your hand (your right hand if you are right-handed, your left if you are left-handed), excluding the thumb.

Note the measurement, then refer to the glove size chart below:

When you first try them on, it is normal for the gloves to feel snug. The leather will soon give and mould to the shape of your hand, for the greatest comfort.

The most common sizes are generally 6.5 – 7 – 7.5 for women and 8 – 8.5 – 9 for men.

Our gloves are made in keeping with tradition from the finest skins, offering ideal comfort, a unique feel and exceptional suppleness. To preserve this, no additional protective treatment is applied to the gloves, so the colour may bleed slightly in damp conditions or with light perspiration; this is in no way a sign of a flaw in the leather, but rather the result of our commitment to the purity of the product.
We also advise against exposing your gloves to direct sunlight for long periods.

Should a stain occur, clean it with a little Fuller’s earth (terre de Sommières) or Marseille soap and leave to dry at room temperature.

For deliveries within France or Europe, French VAT is applied automatically, so the price paid includes all taxes.

For deliveries outside Europe, customs duties may be charged depending on the destination country. In this case, it is the customer’s responsibility to check any customs costs specific to their country of delivery before placing an order.

Above all, we want you to love your hat or gloves and to wear them rather than leave them in a cupboard! That is why we offer to exchange your item if the size or style does not suit you.

You have 14 days from receipt of your order to return your product.

Please make sure the product still has its label and original packaging, and that it has not been worn or damaged. Using the return slip, send it to the following address: Courtois Paris, 8 rue de Babylone, 75007 Paris, France.

If the product meets the exchange conditions, we will send you a Credit Note for the value of your product, which can be used online or in the boutique!
